We are the International Seafarers’ Welfare and Assistance Network, an international charity based in Croydon helping seafarers and their families around the world via a 24-hour, 365 days a year helpline called SeafarerHelp. Our busy helpline team currently has a vacancy for a part-time member of staff to work a minimum of 16 hours a week, although it is usually more, covering various shifts which include weekdays, weekends and Bank holidays.
The job is to take calls/contacts from seafarers who find themselves in some form of problem anywhere in the world. We find out what the problem is and refer them to the organisations that are best placed to assist them. The calls/contacts come to us by telephone, SMS text, email, live chat and Skype so you need to be happy using IT systems.
Starting salary is £8.67/hr. rising to £9.96 after a successful four month probationary period and then to £10.90/hr. Experience is not necessary as full training will be provided but knowledge or experience in the maritime industry, helpline work, counselling or providing emotional support to others would be an advantage.
